Even then

When the world offers me
The finest of its treasures,
The pleasures and luxuries of sin,
Even then,
I will not give in.

When the world threatens me,
To make my life miserable,
To make me appear weak,
Even then,
I will not bow to the gods of this world.

When no one notices me,
Nor looks on me with compassion,
Nor chooses to stand beside me,
Even then,
I will remain faithful to my God.

When others take credit for my work,
Place me where I do not deserve to be,
And keep me low and unnoticed,
Even then,
I will do what I am called to do.

When obedience costs me dearly,
And faithfulness becomes my crime,
When the price is loss and suffering,
Even then,
I will still seek my God.

When I am cast into the darkest den,
With no strength left of my own,
And tomorrow seems uncertain,
Even then,
I will trust the God who shuts the lions' mouths.
